NGC2024-Flame Nebula on 3/11/08
This nebula is located right next to the Horsehead Nebula in the constellation Orion. This was a quick 8m 20s image that didn’t really have enough detail to pull the horsehead, so I just cropped it down to the Flame Nebula.
Very nice shot. I like how you captured the fleeting nebulosity on the star on the right of the image.
When you post process Ed what do you use? Photoshop? I’m using/learning with Photoshop Elements at the moment. What kind of post processing do you do? Do you do levels and curves or do you do more than that?

Most of the time, I combine the photos in DeepSkyStacker. In there, I work using curves, but then I pull everything into Photoshop. I use Photoshop professionally and have for over a decade, so I’m very comfortable there. I work with both levels and curves to pull out detail. Sometimes (particularly on the Moon), I’ll use some unsharp masking or mess with individual color channels, but generally I’m just doing curves/levels and cropping.
