M104-Sombrero Galaxy on 2/20/09

Finally, at the end of the night, I took some shots of the Sombrero Galaxy, M104. The Hubble version of it is probably my favorite Hubble image ever:

With guiding and some longer exposures (2 minutes?) I think I could start to get some dust lane detail.

  1. Hello,

I would like to possibly use the following image (pixinsight.com/…/ 200803-1/M104_hst.jpg) as art for an album cover. When I click on the “massive” version, an error message pops up and says it’s no longer available. Do you have a working link I could follow to the full size image. Is this photo public domain, or is subject to copyright? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Lee

    • That picture is a Hubble image, in the public domain. To find a huge version, go to Google Images and search for HST M104 and you should find a copy. It’s my favorite Hubble image ever.
